Congressman reports survey results

    Congressman Darrell Issa recently notified constituents of a survey he conducted of more than 13,000 residents in the 49th Congressional District. He noted in his regular newsletter that the following issues are most important to most citizens he represents:
    Jobs and the economy 42.1%
    government spending,
    national debt 24.3%
    health cost control 15.8%
    illegal immigration 8.7%
    the war effort 4.9%
    global warming 2.9%
    He notes that the reduction of government spending was the top answer by 38.4%
    In terms of health care, he asked if the same private health plans available to members of Congress were available to the public making the cost to taxpayers minimal and plans being available regardless of pre-existing conditions and being portable from one job to another was supported by a 71.9% margin. Some 17.7% were unsure and 10.4% were against the proposal.
    In regard to the global warming bill to tax carbon dioxide emissions, only 15.8% supported such a tax, with 84.2% against any new energy taxes.
    The last question dealt with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In regard to the policy now being implemented 47.8% felt the country was on the wrong track with 38.8% saying it was the correct way to respond and 13.9% were unsure as to either answer.
