EUHS wins big
    The oldest high school in Lake Elsinore, Elsinore Union High School, not only won the Sunbelt League Championships on the levels of freshman, junior varsity and varsity, for the third time in the past five years, but by beating the other two local schools, EUHS lay claim to the city and district championship in football for the second year in a row. Named to the 2009 Sunbelt All League Football team were Seniors Jon Maricic, Christian Lopez, Rick and Jon Greenwait, Trevor Nordby, Nathan Shatzer, Edwin Tobar, Linden Sidoryk, Kris Kirk and Bill Brit; Juniors Zachary Dembrowski, Jesse Sanchez and Juan Soto; and Sophomores Tucker Nordby and Norlan Peralta.
    Freshman players recognized for outstanding play this season were Terry Adam, Troy Simpson, Kevin Gatrost, Hunter Ekman and Allan Stubbs.
    Girls volleyball also won the CIF Southern Section Division II championship for the first time in the school's 119-year history. Members of this historic team were: Mariah Agre, Kyleen Iverson, Laine Hicks, Michelle Waber, Lauren Quijano, Liz Culhane, Natalie Williamson, Sam Bennett, Heather Kyrouoc, Ashley Soffe, Syndney Prochnow, Evelyn Arias, Breanna Becker and Haley Nichols.

Reflections Awards on tap
    Tuscany Hills residents are invited to the annual PTA Council "Reflections" Awards on Thursday, March from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Canyon Lake Middle School multipurpose room, 33005 Canyon Hills Road.
    All entries and winners will be on display for public viewing. The Reflections competition recognizes students in literature, art, photography, poetry andÊmusic.

Baseball fundraiser
    The Temescal Canyon High School Baseball Boosters are holding a fundraiser golf tournament at the Canyon Lake Golf Course on March 20. After the 12:30 p.m. shotgun tournament, a barbecue chicken and tri-tip dinner will be served. Drawings and an auction will also be held. Aquatics tourney
    The Temescal Canyon High School Aquatics program is holding a golf fundraiser for a new scoreboard, "Help Us Score a Scoreboard Golf Tournament" on Saturday, March 13, at the Links at Summerly in Lake Elsinore. Registration will be held at 11:30 a.m. and the Four Man Scramble format will begin with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $115 per golfer and includes greens fees, shirt, cart, dinner, awards and more. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Musical at Lakeside High
    Theater lovers can attend the upcoming performances of the famous "Sound of Music" to be presented Friday and Saturday, March 19-20 and Friday and Saturday, March 26-27 at 7:30 p.m. at Lakeside High School. The performances all start at 7:30 p.m. and pricing is ranges from $15 to $20 depending on preferred seating. To reserve tickets, call 253-7300.

Fireplace safety reminders
    The Riverside County Fire Department reminds all Tuscany Hills resident to be careful when using fireplaces during the remainder of the winter months. Even though the recent days have been less cold or problematic, all homes with wood fireplaces should have chimneys inspected on a regular basis, at least once yearly cleanings. Always use dry wood and have a spark arrester installed in the chimney. Keep a three-foot safety zone around the fireplace and always use a fireplace screen.
    When usingÊprefabricated log materials, carefully follow their instructions for lighting and never use gasoline or liquid flammables to start a fire. Have a specified kindling to start all fires small, then once established carefully add the larger pieces or logs to be burned.
    Remember that ashes can still create fires if they are not completely out. When cleaning ashes, use a bucket and add cool water and stir the ashes before disposal.

Annual Juried Art show
    Local artists are encouraged to participate in the "Art from the Heart,"Ê annual JuriedÊArt Show that will be held Saturday, March 13 at the Elsinore Woman's Club, 710 W. Graham. The event is open to all residents (except this year younger children's art will not be accepted). This is an adults only show, a separate show for children is planned for later in the year. Diamond Auditions
    Want a chance to sing the Star-Spangled Banner at a Storm game? On Saturday, March 13 the Lake Elsinore Storm Baseball teams is holding its auditions from noon to 2 p.m. at theÊDiamond Stadium. All interested performers are asked to come and auditions are available on a first-come, first serve basis. A completed form must be submitted prior to performing and all participantsÊmust be at least eight years old (those children under age 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
    All auditions will be under 90 seconds and a cappella.ÊThose playing instruments can also participate.Ê Performances will be military style with no additional notes, verse, variations.
